Faculty are best supported from harassment when their institution already has a response and prevention plan in place. These plans should clearly spell out the protections a faculty member can expect, the resources available on campus, and a clear set of procedures designed to support the faculty member. And they should be in line with AAUP principles regarding the protection of academic freedom.
For guidance, I would recommend checking out the University of Massachusetts Amherst’s “Harassment Response and Prevention Plan.” If you any questions, please feel free to reach out to: Jennifer Lundquist, Senior Associate Dean, lundquist@sbs.umass.edu
