Webinars and Workshops

Faculty First Responders workshops address the threats to academic freedom and free speech posed by the politically-motivated harassment of academic workers, and they equip participants with tools to proactively protect themselves and organize to protect their colleagues. We currently offer two workshops / webinars:

  • Academic Freedom Self-Defense – How can academic workers protect themselves, their academic freedom, and their ability to speak out during uncertain and conflicted times? In this Faculty First Responders workshop, participants will learn about the current landscape of politically-motivated attacks on academic workers, review best practices for digital security, and consider how to respond collectively when an attack occurs on their campus. This webinar is most appropriate for collections of individuals or loosely organized groups like academic departments.
  • Collective Action for Academic Freedom – Amid ongoing assaults on academic freedom, the need for collective action to protect academic workers has never been more urgent. In this Faculty First Responders workshop, participants will learn concrete steps to protect themselves and others from politically-motivated attacks, create support systems for colleagues experiencing targeted harassment, and build power to defend free speech on their campus—and across higher ed. This workshop is most appropriate for organized collectives of academic workers, like AAUP chapters, union locals, campus organizations, and professional groups.
